The well-known Jewish deli on Manhattan's Lower East Side, Katz's Deli, is somewhere I've never been. So today I had lunch there. My first trip to the renowned Katz's Deli was part of the NYC Foodie Tour. My typical order was for a cheeseburger and fries. The burgers are always good here. They are served with cole slaw and pickles. The kishka at Katz's Deli is excellent. The mustard is really appealing to me. Since it was a special occasion, we had dinner. For dinner, my wife ordered the kishka.
That's the standard lunch combo. We went to a coffee shop next to Acela, but it seemed a little shady (which is not a good sign because there are a lot of shady coffee shops on the Upper West Side, trust me), so we went next door to check it out. The weather was horrible and I was in the mood for my regular perla nyc ritual - a hot chocolate with whipped cream in one of those tiny little white cups with the green stripe.
That's how we ended up at Acela. A couple of weeks ago went to Acela on Amsterdam Avenue. So we wandered down Amsterdam Avenue looking for a place to stop for a little afternoon pick-me-up. It was a mediocre latte. We talked for a while before paying our bill after a few more hot chocolates, some more conversation, and more coffee. It was delicious hot chocolate. Having spent the majority of the afternoon away from home, we felt satisfied and at ease.
We were happy when we left. Although the bruschetta was good, I doubt I would place another order. We placed separate orders for a latte and hot chocolate. We made the decision to add a bruschetta order to the tab after 45 minutes of sitting. People can sample flavors from all over the world without ever leaving the city thanks to this variety, which reflects New York's multicultural fabric. Traditional Italian espresso, Japanese matcha, Turkish coffee, and Dominican cortados are all served in cafes that are frequently close to one another on foot.
When I tried Vietnamese egg coffee in Queens, the richness of the beverage seemed like a voyage unto itself. The offerings reflect the diversity of the city. These encounters demonstrate how cafes embrace international influences while maintaining a strong sense of local identity. These cafes, which provide not only coffee but also a sense of community, creativity, and connection, are, in my opinion, the beating heart of the city. They are artistic yet pragmatic, varied yet intimate, and fast-paced yet laid back.
